Hilton Hotels & Resorts[1] (formerly known as Hilton Hotels) is an international chain of full-service hotels and resorts founded by Conrad Hilton and now owned by Hilton Worldwide. Hilton hotels are either owned by, managed by, or franchised to independent operators by Hilton Worldwide. Hilton Hotels became the first coast-to-coast hotel chain of the United States in 1943. As of 2010[update], there are now over 540 Hilton branded hotels across the world in 76 countries across six continents. The company places marketing emphasis on business travel, but also owns and operates a number of resorts and leisure-oriented hotels in popular vacation destinations around the world. The company's Hilton HHonors guest loyalty program is one of the largest of its kind and has numerous partnerships with airlines and car rental companies. The U.S. branch of Hilton hotels was reunited with the international properties after more than 40 years in February 2006, when United States-based Hilton Hotels Corporation purchased the hotels division of United Kingdom-based Hilton Group plc, which had acquired Hilton's International operations in 1987 (the companies had been separated originally in 1964).[2]

- Founded in 1919 by Conrad Hilton. Hilton bought his first hotel, the Mobley Hotel, in 1919 in Cisco, Texas.[3]
- The first hotel to bear the Hilton name was the Dallas Hilton, a high-rise that opened in Dallas, Texas in 1925.[4]
- In 1954, Hilton hotels bought the Statler Hotel chain, making it the largest hospitality company in the world.
- In 1949, at the Caribe Hilton Hotel's Beachcomber Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ramon "Monchito" Marrero created the Piña Colada.[5]
- The Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago was scene of the 1968 Democratic Convention riots that occurred across the street in Grant Park. The hotel's doors were locked for the first time in its history. The hotel still suffered minor damage as a result of the violence outside as the street level windows gave way under the weight of hundreds of protesters on the street during the ensuing riot.
- John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their first Bed-In for Peace between March 25 and March 31, 1969 at the Amsterdam Hilton in Room 902. This room became a popular tourist destination.[6]
- On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper made the world's first handheld cellular phone call in public when he called Joel S. Engel at the New York Hilton with a 2 pound Motorola DynaTAC phone.[7]

Hilton, at Needham's Point, Barbados, West Indies.
- The Hilton Nicosia in Nicosia, Cyprus, was the scene of the assassination of Youssef Sebai, an Egyptian newspaper editor and friend of Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat on February 19, 1978. The assassination and hijacking of a Cyprus Airways DC-8 at Larnaca Airport led to the Egyptian raid on Larnaca International Airport by Egyptian forces. The Intervention by the Egyptians led to the deterioration of relations between Cyprus and Egypt.
- The Beirut Hilton finished construction and was supposed to open on April 14, 1975. However, the Lebanese Civil War erupted exactly one day before the Grand Opening date on April 13. The hotel was never opened and was severely damaged during the war. The building was demolished in the late 1990s. In the 2000s, work on a completely separate Hilton Beirut Hotel was begun nearby, but it was never completed.
- The Amsterdam Hilton hotel has had two more notable incidents. On June 27, 1991, Dutch drug kingpin Klaas Bruinsma, once a major drug dealer of Europe, was assassinated in front of the building. On July 11, 2001, Dutch artist Herman Brood committed suicide by jumping from the roof.[8]
- In 2010, Hilton's three hotels in Melbourne, Australia were among those revealed in a report in which hotel workers said they are subjected to punishing workloads, missing wages, intimidation and bullying. The managers of the three hotels have been asked to sign a pledge to end such practices, but have so far refused.[9]
- In late 2010, Hilton Worldwide announced a name change of the Hilton Hotels brand to Hilton Hotels & Resorts along with a new logo design as part of a rebranding effort for the flagship brand.[10]

Cheap Budget Hotel and Motel Rooms in the USA
A motel, or motor hotel, is a lodging where visitors park outside their rooms and enter through a door leading to the parking lot. This is different from a hotel, where travelers enter their rooms through a lobby area and do not have as easy access to their cars. Motels can be more convenient rooms for many travelers, especially families with lots of children. Motel rooms are also usually less expensive than hotel rooms. Popping up now are extended stay hotels, these are a cross between a hotel room and an apartment. Rates for these run typically $200. per week or $800. per month in the southern United States.
Some budget hotel and motel brand chains in the United States are:
Motel 6 which now has locations all over the USA. Motel 6 advertises that they are the lowest priced national budget motel chain. With room prices in the $40 to $70 a night price range. They also have a corporate policy of being pet friendly. Telephone : 800-557-3435

Using an online travel hotel booking website:
Hotel booking websites can save you both time and money, as they produce a list of available hotel rooms in your chosen destination. Most hotel booking websites have most major brands of hotel rooms in their inventory. They get a discount rate from the hotels, that you would not be able to get anyway on your own. Some hotel websites have a specialty, such as European hotels. And you can read consumer reviews.
On convenient feature if you are unfamiliar with the area you will be staying is to search for hotels by map.
Cheap O Stay is the best way to find the cheapest hotels, as their inventory includes negotiated hotel room rates with some of the low priced leaders listed above. They produced US room rates at low as $30. when I looked. There is a slight surcharge in addition to the tax, which is offset by the coupon discount I have provided.
Pets: If you're looking at pet friendly budget hotel and motel rooms, there are some with very reasonable fees and others that are a little harder on the wallet. Some great budget motel chains with low rates and low pet fees include: Best Western, Comfort Inn & Comfort Suites, Doubletree, Econo Lodge, Embassy Suites, Quality Inn, and Mariott Hotels & Resorts.
What is included in the room price in budget hotels:
Budget hotels need not be lacking in amenities and services; in fact many inexpensive hotels have offerings which can rival those that are commonplace in luxurious hotels, thus adequately satisfying your needs. Swimming pools, fitness centers, free meals, WiFI, room service and even small kitchens are becoming the norm in these hotels.
Parking may not be free at budget hotels in the center of major cities. The room may or may not include local calls, internet access. Food including morning coffee, a refrigerator, and ice maker. Radio, television or movies. Complimentary van transport to the airport.
Reservations - Be aware of the hotels reservations policy if you need to cancel. You may not be able to cancel or you may may have to give a few days notice.
Taxes - The hotel prices quoted generally do not include the luxury taxes added on top of the bill. This luxury tax can be anywhere from 8% to 20% depending on the state. Tips for the hotel room attendants is also a customary additional expense.
Pets, children and disabled accomodations are another consideration - Is the room on the ground level or does it have an elevator? Do they have pet rooms, and is there an additional charge? What is the charge for an additional cot in the room?
Technical lovers can enjoy more than just free wifi in some hotels now - Some recommended high tech hotels are the Boston's Hotel at MIT, the Tribeca Grand Hotel New York City, and The Gaansevoort Hotel, New York City. Some of these hotel rooms are decked out in games and sound editing devices.
Off season vacations- Avoid the crowd. When you stay at the main attractions during peak season or for main events, you will always pay more for everything. If you want to get cheap accomodations avoid business conference days, main attractions, main holidays.
Hotels in off the main area locations
If you want to find a good value in cheap hotels avoid name brand places, look for places nearby with the same features, these places will be happy to have you, and will reward you with discounts. Alternatively you may find a budget hotel which is focused more on business stays, which may mean that their prices will be lower at weekends. During lulls in business, hotels will commonly lower their rates in order to attract potential customers. Plan your trip during the off-season or during the middle of the week.
Discount Club Books - Discount clubs like AAA and the Entertainment Book, can save you hundreds on your next vacation, and provide you with travel maps, points of interest and discount admission tickets, discounts on hotels, and rebates and rewards on gasoline, budget rental cars and cheap flight discounts.
Rewards cards discounts- These are clubs where you pay an annual fee to join. This is a club where you will be issued a card like a credit card, and have access to the member area of the website. You will be able to print coupons for many things like hotel discounts, restaurant coupons, etc.
Grocery Coupon websites - Find travel coupons for hotels
Suburbs - Think out of the box, with respect to locations. Name brand famous places always cost more, sometimes double. Staying in the suburbs of major cities might be a better choice for finding budget motels. Look for towns that are similar to famous places, they are less crowded, less expensive, and hotel staff appreciates you more.
Some of the most famous places of United States which would definitely save some money on accommodation if you are opting for motels are Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, San Diego, Miami, Texas, South and North Carolina, Orlando and many more to add to the list.
Couch Surfing accomodations- Thanks to the worldwide internet community, you can now couch surf your way all over the world. With caution, of course. But check out new sites like this one for a taste of this new service exchange: couchsurfing.org
Hostels - Find hostels all over the world on this website.
Join a B&B club and pay $10 to $20 for a room, with breakfast, in the homes of travelers like you. In return, you offer your spare room to people on the road. Call Evergreen Club at 1-800-962-2392 or Affordable Travel Club at 253-858-2172. Of course, be careful when you allow strangers into your house
International budget vacations -
With international vacations, in some places the biggest expense is the cost of getting there. The cost of living in some of these countries is less than you are accustomed to paying in the your every day life in the US. Most of these countries have hotels under $30. per night, beer for $2. or less, and you will enjoy a world of unique culture, art, history and scenery.
Asia: India, Laos, Indonesia, Nepal,
Africa: Morocco, Egypt,
South America: Honduras, Mexico, Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela,
Europe: Poland, Iceland, Bulgaria,
Trade translator services for room accomodations - If you travel to a country where English is not the primary language and you can speak and write it fluently, you can exchange your language skills for many things. Write a menu for a restaurant in exchange for food. Make signs in English for a hotel and get free lodging. When traveling internationally, learning to speak the basic language of your destination will get you much farther.
Book hotel reservations early - If you know that you have booked some time to go on a vacation at some point in the year then it pays to start your search early. Giving yourself plenty of time to find a budget hotel will also allow you to a variety of choice without any of the problems that arise when trying to find somewhere at the last minute. The last thing you would want is to have to make a rushed decision it is much more sensible to shop around to find the right balance of acceptable price and quality. Although there are websites which will help you to find hotel rooms at the last minute, you will still find it cheaper to book your hotel in advance.
Groups and extended stays hotels - It is also worth trying to take advantage of any offers that budget hotels may have on group booking or extended stays. If there is a large group of you going or if you plan on staying longer than 3 nights then quite often cheap hotels will be able to reduce their rates even more for you. Some hotels may also have a membership plan you can sign up to that will offer lower prices. This will be especially useful if you are the sort of person who travels frequently and could be likely to use the hotel rooms repeatedly.
